Description
Detail of patterns in the sand formed by the wind in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. The Atacama stretches for approx. 1000km along the Pacific coast, forming a barrier between the ocean and the Andes Mountains, and continues north along much of the Peruvian coast as well. It is also the world's driest and probably oldest desert. In some areas rain has never been recorded, geological research suggests the region has been continuously arid for many millions of years.
