Description
A view of tropical rainforest along the River Tuichi near the indigenous community owned and managed Chalalan Ecolodge in Madidi National Park in lowland Bolivia. The Park, which covers almost 1.9 million hectares, is thought to be the most biodiverse protected area in the world; over 1,000 bird species have been recorded within its boundaries. It is one of several Parks on the eastern slopes of the Andes of Bolivia and Peru (which include Manu and Tambopata) that form the Vilcabamba-Amboro Corridor, one of the world's largest protected areas. Unfortunately the region is increasingly under threat from forest clearance, illegal mining (especially gold) and infrastructure projects (including highways and hydroelectric dams).
