Description
Sunset over the Salar de Surire, a small, beautiful and remote salt lake at an altitude of 4250m / 13,950ft high in the Andes surrounded by volcanos in the far north of Chile close to the border with Bolivia. This image clearly shows the Earth's shadow (deep blue above horizon); the pink band above it is known as the Belt of Venus or Venus's Girdle. The Salar is a Ramsar Wetland Site and also part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve, recognised by UNESCO in 1981.

Stunning sunset, that pink and blue are so pretty V
James Brunker replied:
Thank you Donna, high altitude is great for pure, clean colours despite the cold.......!
