Santa Cruz de la Sierra (usually shortened to Santa Cruz) in the eastern lowlands of Bolivia is Bolivia's largest city. The brick San Lorenzo cathedral (Catedral Metropolitana Basílica de San Lorenzo in Spanish) is on the central Plaza 24 de Septiembre square. Construction on the current building, which was designed by the French architect Felipe Bertrés, began in 1838; the cathedral was consecrated on 18th August 1915.
