Description
Carpobrotus flowers (also known as pigface, ice plant and the Hottentot plant) growing on sand dunes behind a beach on the Atlantic coast of Minho Province in northern Portugal. In the background is the small beach resort town of Vila Praia de Ancora. There are 15-20 species of Carpobrotus, most are native to South Africa but they have been introduced to many other countries, where they are often an invasive species. The name refers to their edible fruits.
