Description
A close up of part of a fine solar halo in the sky above La Paz, Bolivia, taken on 30th September 2022. This is the relatively common 22º radius circular halo, caused by the refraction of sunlight as it passes through millions of hexagonal ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The close up shows some lovely details in the wispy, high altitude cirrus clouds with which halos are commonly associated.
