Description
A view of the St. Vincent de Paul catholic church with the Phoenix Shot Tower in Baltimore. St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1840 and built in a neoclassical style. The shot tower is the only surviving one of three that were built in the city. It is 234ft / 71.4m tall and when it was completed in 1828 it was the tallest structure in the United States (until 1846).
The Stars and Stripes are the version of the American flag with 15 stars and 15 stripes (introduced in 1795 when Vermont and Kentucky joined the Union) and commonly called the Star Spangled Banner. This is the flag that flew over Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812 and inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem "Defense of Fort McHenry" which was adapted to become the national anthem of the United States of America. The other flags are Heritage Walk flags.
