A studio shot against a black background of a Lilium orientalis 'Stargazer' (the 'Stargazer lily'), a hybrid lily of the Oriental group. The hybrid was created in 1974 by Leslie Woodriff, a lily breeder in California. The new hybrid was called Stargazer because the blooms faced towards the sky; many previous blooms faced downwards, a drooping appearance Woodriff wished to overcome.
