Description
A statue of the 9th Inca king Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui or Pachacuteq / Pachacutec on a fountain in the Plaza de Armas square in central Cusco, Peru. Pachacuteq came to the throne in 1438 and was largely responsible for the expansion of the Inca from being a local kingdom in the Cusco area to a powerful empire covering much of the Andes. The tower is the El Merced church, one of several impressive colonial churches in the city centre.
