Description
A stormy sunrise over Mt Fitzroy (3405m / 11,170ft), one of the most spectacular and famous sights in the Argentine Patagonia and one of the highlights of the Los Glaciares National Park, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. The peak is called "El Chalten" or "Mountain of Fire" in the local indigenous Tehuelche language, which is exactly the effect the rising sun causes as it catches the awesome granite rock walls on a clear morning. Fortunately on this particular morning the clouds broke at just around the right time to allow the light from the rising sun to break through onto the peaks. The nearby village from which nearly all tourists use as a base for visiting the area has the same name. Mt Fitz Roy itself is named after Robert FitzRoy, the English naval officer who was captain of the HMS Beagle on its famous 2nd voyage.

What stunning light - the shadows and low light on the perimeter just makes it even better. Well done, James. - Mike (V/F)

Hola James…I like your image. Mount Fitzroy is so wonderful and you have certainly made an excellent photograph of it. Perfectly exposed and perfectly composed. Just great light…Cheers Bob fv
