A detail of one of the bronze mermaid statues at the base of the monument to Alfonso XII in Retiro Park / Parque del Buen Retiro in Madrid, Spain. The park is one of the largest in the city and full of monuments, woodlands, walkways and gardens. It used to belong to the Spanish royal family until the late 19th century; after that it became a public park.
