Description
People catch up on the news and gossip at a newsstand on the corner of the main plaza in Lampa, a historic colonial village in the Peruvian altiplano not far from Puno. It is known as La Ciudad Rosada ("The Pink Town") due to the colour of its buildings. Many of the older ones are made in the traditional way from adobe (mud and straw) bricks covered in stucco / plaster painted in red / pink / terracotta colours. Newsstands are popular meeting places in villages all across rural South America, both for catching up on (inter)national news and local gossip.
