Description
Toledo is one of Spain's most historic cities and was the capital of Visigoth Spain until the Moors conquered the region in the 8th century. Its magnificent cathedral, the Primate Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo (Catedral Primada Santa María de Toledo) is one of the finest gothic style cathedrals in Spain and is modeled after Bourges cathedral. Construction began in 1226 under the rule of Ferdinand III and it was completed in 1493. The tower (which has some decorative Mudéjar features) is 92m / 301ft high. Toledo Historic City was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986.
