Description
The rustic church at Tomarapi in Sajama National Park in the far west of Bolivia after an overnight winter snowfall. These quaint stone and adobe / mud brick churches are typical of the high altiplano regions of the central Andes; research has shown many of them were built on sites sacred to the indigenous people to encourage them to convert to Catholicism. Most have the belfry separate from the main building and a surrounding wall with an arched entrance enclosing a courtyard.
