Description
Uyuni in SW Bolivia was founded in 1890 as a railway junction and used to be a major railroad centre in its heyday. Those days have long since passed though trains still pass through. The steam trains started to be replaced by diesels in 1958, just outside the village dozens of steam engines, coaches and wagons lie rusting in the old railway yards as a reminder of days gone by. It's a great place to play for photography, the altiplano light and sunsets can be beautiful. This image clearly shows the Earth's shadow (blue above horizon); the pink band above it is known as the Belt of Venus of Venus's Girdle
