Description
Detail of the famous statue of the Virgen de Belen (also called Mamacha Belen, the patron saint of Cusco) during the processions for Corpus Christi in Cusco, Peru. The base of the figure is made of solid silver and the robes embroidered with real godl and silver threads. One of the towers of the Compania de Jesus church is in the background. Corpus Christi (The Body of Christ) is one of the most important dates in the Catholic calendar. The celebrations in Cusco are some of the largest in Latin America, 15 saints are carried from their churches throughout the city to the cathedral on the central Plaza de Armas for further parades and masses.
