Description
A bread seller bags an order for a customer in front of an impressive section of Inca wall in Cusco, Peru. These large round bread loaves are called pan chuta locally and are made in the village of Oropesa about 20km from Cusco. The village is famous for its bakeries, and the bread is often given as a gift when visiting friend or relatives and used in festivals and rituals.
Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire and you can still see many sections of walls from the Inca period in the city. The Spanish built many of their houses and churches over the foundations of the original Inca buildings, or used stones from them for construction.
