Mars shines brightly above Mt Illimani and the city lights of La Paz, Bolivia's administrative capital. This image was taken on 26th July 2018, one day before the Mars Opposition (when it is closest to Earth and much brighter in the sky than normal). Oppositions of Mars occur just over every 2 years, the 2018 Opposition was the brightest since 2003. Mt Illimani is at 6439m / 21,125ft Bolivia's second highest mountain and is also the symbol and guardian peak of the city.
