The way the Incas used the environment around them for their sites is amazing. If you get to Peru (re your other commment) you'll find plenty of this sort of thing to keep you busy! If hiking is your thing look into going to Choquequirao, similar to Machu Picchu but setting is maybe even more stunning and it sees a lot less people.

Stunning shot James. I love the architectural features.

Artist's Description

Arguably the most beautiful site on Peru's famous Inca Trail, Winay Wayna (which means "forever young" in Quechua) shows how well the Incas designed and built their towns to fit the landscape and environment around them. Winay Wayna is the final site before the Inca Trail ends at Machu Picchu, and can also be accessed directly via a shorter trek from km104 of the railway that runs along the Urubamba Canyon.
