Winter fog rolls over the Royal Palace and the Plaza de la Armeria in the centre of Spain's capital, Madrid. The Palace dates from the mid 18th century; a previous palace that burned down in 1734 had been built on the site of a 9th century castle. This Plaza was re-designed in its current form in 1892. These days the Palace is only used for state ceremonies, the Royal Family live in a smaller palace on the outskirts of Madrid instead.
