Description
Classic American cars parked in the Colon Cemetery in Havana's Vedado district. In he foregroudn is a classic first generation (1951 - 1954) Chevrolet Bel Air, behind it a Pontiac. Cuba is famous for the large number of vintage American cars that can be seen there, many of which were left behind by their owners after the Cuban Revolution in 1959. The subsequent US embargo made it harder to import new models, hence the older cars are still widely used. The Colon Cemetery (named after Christopher Columbus, Cristobal Colon in Spanish) is one of the largest and most famous in Latin America and noted for its many impressive sculpted memorials
