Description
The coca leaf (Erythroxylum coca) has been used for milenia by the indigenous people of the Andes who regard it as sacred. Chewing the leaf is a very common habit; it is also an important medicinal part (it contains high concentrations of many vitamins, minerals and alkaloids) and is frequently used in rituals and ceremonies. Elsewhere it is best known for the product obtained by the chemical extraction and processing of one of its many alkaloids..... cocaine.
