Description
A detail of the upper part of the facade of the reduced size replica of the former Deer Park Hotel in Dailey’s Park, Oakland, Maryland. The original hotel was a famous resort in the small town of Deer Park in the nearby Appalachian Mountains. It was built by the B&O Railroad and opened on July 4th, 1873. In its heyday it was one of the most exclusive mountain resorts in the eastern USA with guests including various US Presidents. The Great Depression led to the hotel closing in 1929, and it was finally destroyed by a fire in the early 1940s. The replica roughly corresponds to the upper 2 stories of the original hotel (which going by historic period photographs must have been a very impressive building) and houses the Garrett County Historical Society Museum.
