Description
A statue of Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui (or Pachacutec) in Cusco appears to embrace the nearly full moon as it rises. Pachacutec was the 9th Inca and ruled from 1438-1471/2, it was during his reign that the Inca empire expanded from being a local kingdom in the Cusco area to control much of the Andes. The Inca kings were regarded as being descendents of the Sun God Inti, the moon was also an important female deity Q'illa.
