Description
Portobelo, on Panama's Caribbean coast, was one of the most important ports in the Americas in the 16th and 17th centuries. Much of the gold the Spanish looted from South America passed through it en route to Europe and the town was sacked many times by pirates. This old cemetery used to be next to the busy slave market, now it is abandoned and slowly turning into a swamp.
