Description
The full moon rises through clouds over the peaks of the Serranias Murillo range, a mini-range that is part of the Cordillera Real, the longest Andean mountain range in Bolivia. The lights in foreground are in the suburb of Pampahasi that sprawls up the steep hillsides on the eastern side of the city of La Paz (Bolivia's administrative capital). The peak left of centre is Mt Jathi Qullu / Jathi Khollu (there are various spellings, 5421m / 17,785 ft), the black rocky triangular peak to its right is Cerro Tigra Killa (5230m / 17,60ft). Few cities enjoy as spectacular setting as La Paz, the city centre is at an altitude around 3650m / 11,975 ft in a huge valley below the Andes Mountains. It's higher suburbs and sister city of El Alto are over 4000m / 13,125ft high, the lowest suburbs are nearly 1000m / 3,300ft lower down! I really liked the way the moon lit up the higher thin clouds as it rose through the main mass of cloud on this particular evening.
