Description
A statue of the 9th Inca king Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui or Pachacuteq / Pachacutec on a fountain dominates views of the Plaza de Armas square in central Cusco, Peru. Pachacuteq came to the throne in 1438 and was largely responsible for the expansion of the Inca from being a local kingdom in the Cusco area to a powerful empire covering much of the Andes. Also in the image is San Cristobal church, the walls top right are part of the huge Inca site of Sacsayhuaman that overlooks the city.
