Description
A red London bus passes the so called "Walkie Talkie" building as it crosses Waterloo Bridge. The building, whose official address is 20 Fenchurch Street, was completed in 2014 and at 160m / 525ft high is the 13th tallest in London. The building was designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Vinoly and was found to have faults, notably a solar glare problem. The curved glass surface reflected and focussed sunlight on the street below at certain times of the day, causing excessive temperatures and damaging some vehicles as a result, meaning the windows had to be replaced with non reflective glass. It won the 2015 Carbuncle Cup award for the worst new building in the UK in the previous 12 months ....! On the right is the Oxo Tower, part of what was originally a power station before being bought by the company that made Oxo beef stock cubes in the 1920s.
