Description
The Santuario de Santa Luzia / Sanctuary of Santa Lucia sits on top of the hill of the same name and enjoys superb views over the city of Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal. It was built between 1904 and 1959 in a mixture of modern Roman, Gothic and Byzantine styles. Granite was mainly used in its construction. Viana do Castelo was an important port in mediaeval times when it was the departure point for many Portuguese explorers.
