Description
A view over the high altitude deserts of the Puna de Atacama, a vast, desolate volcanic plateau in the central Andes shared by Chile and Argentina. This image was taken from the flanks of the Copiapo volcano (also called Azufre, the Spanish word for sulphur / sulfur); the area has long been mined for this and other minerals. The lake in the distance is Laguna del Ngero Francisco, a saline lake in the southern sector of the Nevado de Tres Cruces National Park. I really liked the variety of browns and earthy tones and flowing rounded landforms of the hillsides and valleys here, the small snow patches scattered about contrasted nicely with the barren desert.
