Description
The approx. 26 species of Copiapoa cactus are only found in coastal regions of Chile's Atacama Desert, many have a very limited range and are endangered. Rain very rarely falls in the area (a few days in spring every 3-4 years on average) and most plants get their moisture from the sea fogs that cover the area in winter especially. When it does rain you may be lucky and find some plants in flower! This species is Copiapoa dealbata, found in the Llanos del Challe National Park and nearby areas in the Region III de Atacama.
