Description
The white trunks of European or silver birch trees (Betula pendula) contrast with a carpet of bluebells flowering in a typical Weald of Kent woodland in southeast England. These flowers are common or English bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), native to north western Europe. It is an indicator species for ancient woodlands and is a protected species in the UK, the "bluebell woods" are a wonderful natural feature in the spring.
