Description
A well looked after black classic second generation (1955 - 1957) Chevrolet Bel Air in Cienfuegos, a port city in southern Cuba. Cuba is famous for the large number of vintage American cars that can be seen there, many of which were left behind by their owners after the Cuban Revolution in 1959. The subsequent US embargo made it harder to import new models, hence the older cars are still widely used. This car has an outline map of Cuba above the license plate as part of its frame. Hatuey was an indigenous Taino chief from the island of Hispaniola who fled to Cuba during the Spanish conquest. There he led a group of natives in resistance against the invading Spaniards, becoming one of the first fighters against colonialism in the New World. He was burned alive at the stake in 1512, and is celebrated as Cuba's First National Hero. One of Cuba's oldest and most popular beer brands is named after him.
