Description
Common or English bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) flowering around the mossy roots of an old oak tree (Quercus rober) in a typical ancient woodland in the High Weald area of Kent in southeast England. This beautiful flower is native to northwestern Europe and the UK, and is the species that produces the famous blue carpets known as "bluebell woods" in spring. It is an indicator species for ancient woodlands and is a protected species in the UK.
