Description
A comma butterfly (Polygonia c-album) feeding on the flowers of a blackthorn or sloe tree (Prunus spinosa) in early spring in the Weald of Kent in southeast England. The blackthorn is one of the first trees to flower in spring, adding colour to leafless woods and hedges and also providing food for early butterflies. The comma is a distinctive butterfly that has been becoming more common in England in recent times.
