Description
A close up of a common or English bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) in flower in spring in southern England. This beautiful flower is native to north western Europe and the UK, and is the species that produces the famous blue carpets known as "bluebell woods" in spring. It is an indicator species for ancient woodlands and is a protected species in the UK, The long, bell-like flowers are on one side of the stem, causing them to droop over.
