Description
A detail of the polished granite stone plaque that is part of the memorial on Rash Field in Baltimore's Inner Harbor to the Pride of Baltimore. The Pride of Baltimore was a reproduction of a typical early 19th-century "Baltimore clipper" topsail schooner, commissioned on May 1st 1977 to represent the city. After nine years at sea and over 150,000 miles she was lost at sea in the Caribbean on May 14th 1986. Her captain and three of the crew died, 8 other crew members were rescued after nearly 5 days adrift on a life-raft. A second ship, the Pride of Baltimore II was commissioned as the successor and memorial in 1988 and is still sailing the world.
