Description
PEE stands for stands for Punto de Encuentro de Emergencias in Spanish, or Emergency Meeting Point (usually in case of earthquakes) This sign was on the edge of the Salar de Ascotan salt flat high in the Chilean Andes on a back road from Calama towards Bolivia. It was a few minutes walk onto the salt flat from a nearby borax mining camp; borax is extracted from a number of salt flats and mineral lakes in the region. The mountain is the 5478m / 18,077ft high Ascotan volcano on the Bolivian border.
