The kantuta is a beautiful and distinctive flower that is widespread at high altitudes in both Bolivia and Peru and is the national flower of both countries. There are several colour varieties, red is the most common and Peru's national flower. This version with red petals, yellow flower tube and green calyx is one of the national flowers of Bolivia as the colours are the same as the national flag. The flowers features in various Inca legends and is also a common subject in poetry and literature.
