Description
Red Line / Linea Roja cable cars pass over brick houses in the suburbs of La Paz. In the background is Mt Illimani (6439m / 21,125ft), Bolivia's second highest mountain. The Red Line officially opened in May 2014 and was the first of several cable car lines to be built in the cities of La Paz and El Alto. The network currently consists of 10 lines and is 30.6km / 19 miles long, the largest urban Cable-Propelled Transit (CPT) system in the world. It is also the highest - central La Paz is at an altitude of around 3650m / 11,970ft, El Alto 4,050m / 13,280ft.
