Description
A view looking across beautiful golden totora reed beds (Schoenoplectus californicus subsp. tatora) growing near the shore of the Inner Lake (called Winaymarka, Huinaymarca or Lago Menor locally). The mountain in the image is Mt Illimani (6439m / 21,125ft), the southernmost peak in the Cordillera Real range and Bolivia's 2nd highest peak. Totora reeds grow in huge numbers in the shallower parts of the lake and are a very important habitat and refuge for wildlife; they are also harvested by villagers who live near the shore of the lake.
