Description
The sun's last rays light up the peaks of the Serranias Murillo range, a mini-range that is part of the Cordillera Real, the longest and highest Andean mountain range in Bolivia. In the foreground brick houses in the suburbs on the eastern side of the city of La Paz (Bolivia's administrative capital) sprawl up the steep hillsides. The peak just left of centre is Mt Jathi Qullu / Jathi Khollu (there are various spellings, 5421m / 17,785 ft), the black rocky triangular peak to its right (catching the sun) is Cerro Tigra Killa (5230m / 17,60ft), on the right is Mt Khasiri / Q'asiri (5224m / 17,139 ft). Few cities enjoy as spectacular setting as La Paz, the city centre is at an altitude around 3650m / 11,975 ft in a huge valley below the Andes Mountains. It's higher suburbs and sister city of El Alto are over 4000m / 13,125ft high, the lowest suburbs are nearly 1000m / 3,300ft lower down!
