Description
A man wearing traditional dress walks through a stone archway on Taquile Island in the Peruvian part of Lake Titicaca. The islanders speak Quechua and still strongly preserve their traditional way of life. These arches are part of the walls that divide the island into its 6 administrative districts, it has been decorated with flowers and plants for a festival. Taquile and its textile art traditions were originally declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005 and added to UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
