Description
A pepino mannequin sits on a rustic fence post next to a herd of llamas in Sajama National Park in the far west of Bolivia. The mountain in the background is the Parinacota volcano (6342m / 20,805ft), one of the Payachatas volcanos that lie on the Chilean border and said to be the highest symmetrical conical volcano in the world. Pepinos are a characters that are particularly associated with Carnival celebrations in La Paz, many people dress up in the costumes and masks for Carnival parades and celebrations. This poor old pepino ended up having to work guarding llamas rather than going out and having fun with his mates......!
