Description
A pepino mannequin sits on a rustic fence post next to a herd of llamas in Sajama National Park in the far west of Bolivia. The peaks in the background are the Payachatas ("twin" in the Aymara language) volcanos which lie on the Chilean border, individually Parinacota (L, 6342m / 20,805ft) and Pomerape (R, 6282 m / 20,610ft). Pepinos are a characters that are particularly associated with Carnival celebrations in La Paz, many people dress up in the costumes and masks for Carnival parades and celebrations. This poor old pepino dummy ended up having to work guarding llamas rather than going out and having fun with his mates......!
