Description
Daffodils or Narcissus plants in flower next to the cricket green on Southborough Common in Kent, southeast England. Originally native to southern Europe and North Africa with a centre of diversity in the Western Mediterranean (especially the Iberian peninsula), they are a member of the amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae) and now very common and popular in parks and gardens worldwide and also as cut flowers. In the UK and northern Europe they usually flower in early spring and are an obvious sign of the changing seasons. In the background is St Peter's Church, built in 1830. The tower with spire was added when it was extended in 1883 and is a well known local landmark.
