Description
A baby southern viscacha (Lagidium viscacia) peeps out from behind a bush in its high Andean habitat. Viscachas are closely related to the chinchillas and look like a cross between a large rabbit and a squirrel. They are often found in boulder fields as high as the snow line in the Andes where night temperatures are usually well below freezing. They are very agile and can run over rocks and boulders at high speed when they need to, though they prefer to spend their spare time sitting in the sun and looking cute!
