Description
Caminha's Igreja Matriz / parish church dates from the 15th century and was built in the Gothic style with notable Manueline influences. Caminha, in the far north of Portugal, has a long history; the Romans had a military settlement here and in the 13th century King Afonso III built a new castle and fortifications around what at the time was a fishing village. Part of the old town's defensive walls can be seen in the foreground.
