Description
Nowhere do mountains have such religious significance as in the Himalaya. This stupa / chorten is one of several at the Feilaisi / Feilai Temple complex in Deqin County (part of the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture) in the far northwest of Yunnan Province near the Tibetan border. The temple and nearby monastery were originally built in 1614 and are located next to the Yunnan-Tibet Highway. Kawagebo / Kawagarbo (6,740m / 22,113 ft) is the highest peak in the Meili Snow Mountain range and one of the most sacred peaks in the Tibetan world. This region is part of the Hengduan mountain system, which covers southeastern Tibet and extends into Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces in southwestern China.
