A close up portrait of an adult Magellanic penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus) preening. These black and white penguins are found in the oceans of South America and breeds in large colonies on the coasts of Argentina, Chile (especially in Patagonian regions in the far south) and the Falkland Islands. It is named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who recorded the birds in 1520 during the voyage when he became the first person to circumnavigate the Earth.
